It was a humbling moment indeed.
At that moment I felt that was taller than a mountain. I was running five miles every morning, working through a hard day of hard work every day, and then hit the gym every night. Could start ups in three sets of double digit grinding through a set of 60 dives seamless single sweat gland.
Meanwhile, my strength was intact. I was benching, curling, pressing, pulling and squatting more than ever before. The higher my profits soared, the lowest percentage of fat on my body would fall. Yes, I was in the best shape of my life.
I bounced in my 15 minute warm-up session on the stepper and was ready to take on this new gym by storm. I had never worked out in this particular facility before, but no matter. At that moment, I felt invincible.
On my way to the Smith machine, I noticed a small gathering at the corner of the gym. All eyes focused on the wall where something new, something interesting had to turn the fuss.
I strutted over to see for myself just as a middle-aged man came on the ground, his face flushed with exhaustion, deep breath caught in her womb. It looked like a soldier returning from battle, and was immediately comforted by his love for the wait.
I looked at the enemy. Hovers over the piece strange gym equipment she had seen. It was big, it was strange, it was difficult, she was ugly.
It was awesome.
One look and I knew exactly what it was. It was an escalation of the machine. He leaned down and almost straight up to the ceiling, a large conveyor belt that rotates on a frame metal. Throughout the tape was a series of synthetic stones and grooves, designed to simulate an actual cliff. Along the side was a lever that controls the rate that the tape could rotate.
This was called "The Rock".
Nobody else made a move to address this effort. Nobody dared. Nobody except me.
The movie "Cliffhanger", the Sylvester Stallone film that took the action genre to new heights, was in full boiling on everyone's lips at the moment and no doubt inspired the gym to acquire a training device.
I felt a bit like "Rocky" myself for what emerged from the crowd as the heavyweight champion over myself and to strengthen this team.
What happened next, I would not disclose.
Let's just say that three minutes later, the ego, self-confidence on the rise, everything fell down the wall with me. I sat on the gym on a pile of defeat, arms and legs completely shot, my heart is racing like a Nissan. "The Rock" knocked me out.
The moral of the story (besides keeping your ego in check) is that rock climbing is one of the most physically challenging exercises you could possible take. After all, must be a reason why professional rock climbers are so lean and healthy.
Rock climbing is an exercise not only strengthens the legs and upper torso, but can also be the best way to improve range of motion.
As terrible as my three-minute bout of "The Rock" may sound, the device is actually the ideal way to start this activity. The resistance of the machine can be set at a very low level for beginners to get used to the shape and movement needed in rock climbing.
You can eventually work their way to a faster pace, which provides for a sensational training. I remember feeling resounding bomb all over my body after just a few minutes of fast pace on the machine.
Your battles will not necessarily end after conquered the "Rock". Hundreds of rock climbing gyms have been occurring throughout the country and offer more challenging programs.
