Icon Health and Fitness is the first Fitness America and Europe combined. Proform is a product of Icon that is primarily sold at points of extensive fitness and big box stores like Sears and Sam's Club. They are ranked for the low prices for their fitness equipment. The mark also Reebok and Nordic Track fitness equipment.
Proform elliptical equipment is designed and built for people who use their bikes slightly elliptical and irregularly. It is essentially elliptical trainers light domestic use only. If you use your elliptical trainer intensely so we recommend spending more money for another machine outside of the line ProForm equipment.
We recently had the opportunity to use a relatively new 1280 S Elliptical trainer who has been bought by a neighbor to use home. It was purchased in a local store which showed low to mid range priced ellipticals. ProForm Ellipticals price range from $ 299.00 to $ 990.00.
We used the ProForm 1280 S for a period of approximately two weeks. A total of 4 different test the machine. Their weight ranges from £ 115 to 280 lbs, all with experience using the elliptical at the YMCA and local gyms. Unfortunately we had a failure on the first day, when the resistance suddenly decreased to zero and a high buzzing sound was generated. The local repair people is come spend some time making adjustments and repairs. By opening the machine a lot of gunpowder were found on the floor. According repair was due to the lack of adjustment.
The next day a second of our testers were able to use the Elliptical for a drive full of important issues. The noise was an important factor when the intensity level was increased. It was noted that a crack in the wheel arch plastic had to appear or had increased in size following the workout. Too more plastic black powder was on the floor after the workout.
The third test was performed the next day and was interrupted because of the increased noise level. It was decided that this unit is not durable enough for our workouts with relatively strong support.
On the positive side the ability to change the slope and shape of the wake on the fly is a real plus. However, Change was slow and noisy. The problem is that S 1280 is not very well built elliptical trainer. During the workout plastic parts flopped around during moderate exercise. Again, the powder shows wear plastic internal parts. We again contacted the repair company and they said basically that you get what you pay and they had many problems with the Proform fitness equipment, However, many of them are sold each year.
Outside PorForm elliptical trainer in 1280 resembles a large piece of equipment fitness, but in reality, the plastic parts just does not withstand normal use. It's obvious the quality of their internal parts are still very poor. Plastic is being cheap. Icon is also big on bells and whistles, is a perfect example of their iFit technology an interactive program that controls your workouts with various challenges. Their vulnerability is in the quality of components. Old models of Elliptical trainers march poorly in tests by Consumer Reports. They were at best rated as average with only the ease of use is considered very good.
Our policy is to always recommend buying an extended warranty when purchasing any piece of fitness equipment physics. If you really like the ProForm elliptical trainer you absolutely need to buy the extended warranty to include parts and service, the elliptical Proform come with a guaranteed level of very short, which include 90 days of service and 90 days parts. An additional concern and professionalism with all products Icon is the support and service is just over the warranty period.
Unless you are a casual user of your elliptical trainer We strongly recommend that you spend more money on another brand of elliptical trainer. It should be noted as our local repairman said ProForm sells a lot of treadmills and ellipticals and many of these people seem satisfied with their purchase. When it comes to Elliptical Trainers, Cavet Emptor, let the buyer beware.
